Sesame is a flowering plant from Sesame genus, also known as benne. It is one of the most oil-rich seed plants with a rich, nutty flavor, which makes it a common ingredient in various cuisines around the world. Like other nuts, it can cause allergic reactions in some people. Sesame seeds are often added to bread, such as bagels or hamburger buns. They can also be baked into crackers, often in the form of sticks. In Sicily and France, sesame seeds are eaten with bread (ficelle sésame – sesame stick), while in Greece they are used in cakes.
