Cloves - an aromatic and versatile spice
Cloves are a tree in the Myrtaceae family. Syzygium aromaticum aromatic flower buds, commonly used as a spice. Cloves are used in Asian, African, Near and Middle Eastern cuisines, adding flavor to meats, curries and marinades, as well as fruits such as apples, pears or rhubarb. Cloves can also be used to add aromatic and flavoring properties to hot drinks, often in combination with other ingredients such as lemon and sugar. They are often used in spice blends such as pumpkin pie spice and speculoos spice.

Cloves are also used in dentistry, where the essential oil is used as an anodyne (painkiller) for dental and various other ailments.
